<p>To get the most out of a career workshop, you must come prepared. There are a few things you must do before arriving:</p>
<p><strong>Develop a Plan of Action</strong></p>
<p>You  should set a goal before attending any workshops. If you aren’t sure  what you want to do, make that a goal. Career workshops can help those  confident in their career choice AND those looking to discover their  options.</p>
<p>If  you know exactly what you want to do and how to get there, you might  want to consider viewing workshops as interview opportunities waiting to  happen. Networking is crucial at these events, and you never know, you  might have a great conversation with a professional that needs an  intern.</p>
<p><strong>Prepare Questions</strong></p>
<p>Career  workshops are one of the only places that questions are not only  welcomed, but recommended. Professionals and employers regularly attend  career workshops. There aren’t many chances for job seekers to have a  professional audience for their questions. Therefore, you must seize the  opportunity. Coming up with a list of questions for employers and  counselors will not only help jump-start your career, but also it may be  useful for conversational purposes. Directing thoughtful questions at  employers will show your level of interest and enthusiasm.</p>
<p>At  these workshops, you have the opportunity to ask like-minded  professionals about their background, including skills and education.  Probing for this information will help you find out what else you need  to do to make it in that field.</p>
<p><strong>Bring Multiple Copies of Your Resume</strong></p>
<p>When  attending these career workshops, you must not forget to bring a few  copies of your resume. You never know who you might meet at these events  and you should be prepared to introduce yourself. Business cards would  be useful as well.</p>
<p><strong>Follow up</strong></p>
<p>This  crucial last step is one that many job seekers fail to do. While it is  important to send a note after you have had an interview, following up  with anyone you might have met at a career workshop can really set  yourself apart from the dozens of other job seekers they have met. All  it takes is a quick note of appreciation to establish a contact.</p>

When you send your  resume to prospective employers, it will be scanned through an Applicant  Tracking System (ATS).</p>
<p>The general procedure of an ATS has always been more or less the same.</p>
<p><strong>Every ATS has a parser</strong> and that parser will read your resume and remove all styling. The parser will then assign meaning to the content.</p>
<p>Once this has been done, t<strong>he words in your resume will be broken up into a searchable database. </strong> The ATS will file these into appropriate groupings; for example, all  words connected to “education” will be grouped together accordingly.</p>
<p>Finally, the ATS will provide your prospective employer with <strong>a summary of your key skills</strong>.  This will include how many years of experience you have in these key  skills. If your resume has been properly focused for the job opening  (with help from <a href="http://resunate.com/">Resunate</a>), your prospective employer should be looking at a list of skills that match the job’s requirements.</p>
<p>In  today’s modern world, since nearly all mid-sized and major companies  use Applicant Tracking Systems, the technology has had to adapt. In  recent years, Applicant Tracking Systems have had to be modified and  adjusted to keep up with regulations and  the fast-paced job market. Not only are the systems used for tracking  candidates during the pre-employment process, but they are now being  used in the post-hiring stage. Applicant Tracking Systems can now be  used for employee management and performance appraisals. Even more  impressive, the technology can now import resumes from a candidate’s  social media site.</p>
<p>Just  like any other step of the hiring process, Applicant Tracking Systems  also have to adhere to equal opportunity employment laws. In order to  adapt successfully, Applicant Tracking Systems now offer encrypted  resume and data storage off-site.</p>
<p>Companies  rely heavily on their Applicant Tracking Systems. While this technology  helps recruiters and hiring managers, it is up to you to organize  information so that an ATS can easily pull information from your resume.  While these systems are highly intelligent (now more than ever), they  won’t be any help to you if you don’t know how to properly format your  resume and focus it to make the best impression on both machine and  human scanning.</p>
